ROMANTIC MARRAKECH

Chivalry is not dead.

Lucia Silver

There is an unequalled, heady cocktail of erotic, exotic sensuality that bubbles through the veins of Morocco like nowhere else for me.

If you are planning a romantic weekend, simply escaping in order to re-connect or even celebrating your honeymoon in Morocco, then please let us know. I’m literally bursting with all the beautiful things I’d love to share with you, that you can enjoy together or alone in Marrakech.

Here is my Romantic Marrakech.

With fragranced love,

Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

Adventure across the Place Jemaa El Fna

Hold hands and go on an adventure at night time across the Place Jemaa El Fna with its Gnawa musicians and dancers, snake charmers and storytellers and then dive into the souks and just get yourselves lost.

Take a Horse Drawn Carriage

Take a sunset ride through the West Palmeraie desert in a caleche.

Escape to the Desert

Be Bedouins. Using Marrakech as a base, set out on a camel trek across the stunning Sahara with a crew of Berber and Tuareg guides.

A visit to Marrakech was a great shock to me. This city taught me colour.

Great love affairs start with Champagne and end with tisane.

Honore de Balzac

This is what it means to be loved… when someone wants to touch you, to be tender…

Banana Yoshimoto, The Lake

My Gardens of Paradise – Les Jardins Majorelles

Arrange a private visit to the Majorelle Gardens, a tranquil oasis owned and maintained by late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.

Float in a Hot Air Balloon

Take a bottle of champagne and watch the sunrise or sunset over Marrakech floating in a hot-air balloon. You’ll see the extraordinary juxtaposition of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, vaste desert and lush palm trees.

Take a Massage together…

…A full body massage taken together in the privacy of your own suite at Dar Jaguar, followed by a candlelit dinner on the roof terrace. Listen to the distant call to prayer of the muezzin and enjoy the spectacular view of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, the Koutoubia Mosque and the city.

My father considered a walk among the mountains as the equivalent of churchgoing.

Aldous Huxley

Nurture your body to strengthen your soul.

Hideaway in the Mountains

Hideaway in the Mountains and Rock the Kasbah at the highest peak in Northern Africa: Mount Toubkal. Stay a night at the majestic hideaway Kasbah du Toubkal – Martin Scorsese used it as the Tibetan monastery in his film Kundun. I love the sheer simplicity of the mule and guide who will come to meet you and carry your bags to the Kasbah. Before you do anything else, go to the rooftop and breath in the mountain views – justifiably publicized as the best in North Africa.

Gently Glow in a Hammam

Gently glow in a Hammam together. It’s one of the most quintessentially Moroccan things to experience and also one of the most intimate and fun things that you’ll always remember.

More luxurious hammams and spas include those at La Mamounia, La Sultana and Le Palais Rhoul hotels. My personal favourite from the owners of The Secret Garden is Hammam de la Rose with its affordable prices and aqua-tranquil interiors.

It is the nature of the strong heart, that like the palm tree it strives ever upwards when it is most burdened.

Philip Sidney

Discover the idyllic Palm Groves

I am always discovering new and more wondrously idyllic places deep in the heart of the Palm Groves.

There are two places that I love to return to whenever I need a fix of their beauty and just want to sit with my loved one in silence.

The first is the lush manicured gardens of Jnane Tamsna. The gorgeous owners Meryanne Loum-Martin and her ethnobotanist husband, Gary are more talented and lovely than should be allowed in combination. They have created my mind’s vision of the Garden of Eden (- no snakes and fabulous food).

The second is Palais Rhoul. This is straight out of a Lawrence Alma Tadema painting of classical antiquity with all its luxurious oriental indulgence. They have the most beautiful pool surrounded by Corinthian columns and set beneath a literal waterfall of wisteria. Breathtakingly sensual and just about the best place I can think to sit and have lunch with your lover.
